Freight Derivatives Seminar and Workshop
Freight derivatives have come a long way and are now an integral part of shipping markets. But while many of us now have a basic understanding of what they are and how they work, there is so much more to learn.
In conjunction with Singapore Maritime Week, Pinguino is pleased to bring you the following two events to upgrade your knowledge and skills in this important area during these especially challenging times.
1. Legal Seminar
Presenter: Ms Lian-Yok Tan, Partner, Holman Fenwick Willan
Many market participants have implemented hedging strategies as part of their risk mitigation policy. This seminar will cover the documentary and legal issues relating to trades in forward freight agreements (FFAs) including:
- An overview of the FFABA 2007 contract
- Ways to minimise contractual risks for over-the-counter (OTC) FFA trades
- Rights that can be exercised upon occurrence of credit defaults, both actual and potential
| Venue: | Pinguino Training Centre 7C Mohamed Sultan Road Singapore 238957 |
| Date: | 20 April 2009 |
| Time: | 1400hrs – 1530hrs |
| Pricing: | S$80.00 per pax |
2. Trading Workshop
Course Leader: Mr Nicolas Lim, Freight Derivatives Consultant
Making the move from watching and discussing the freight derivatives market to being a trading participant can be a daunting one. This intensive two-day workshop will cover the things you need to know to start trading effectively including:
- Freight derivatives history
- Types of shipping risk
- Freight derivative market volatility
- Cleared vs OTC markets
- Broking channels
- Trade and risk management tools
- Margin calculations
- FFA trading
- Options trading
A particularly valuable feature of the workshop will be a trade simulation exercise which will allow participants to appreciate decision-making in an actual trading environment.
| Venue: | Pinguino Training Centre 7C Mohamed Sultan Road Singapore 238957 |
| Date: | Thu, 23 – Fri, 24 April 2009 |
| Time: | 0900hrs – 1700hrs |

The above seminar and workshop will be useful for all participants who wish to deepen their knowledge and skills in the freight derivatives markets including shipowners, charterers, brokers, banks, investment banks and hedge funds.
To allow for exchange between speakers and participants, both events will be kept small thus the number of seats available will be limited and be allocated on a first come-first served basis. Sign up today to avoid disappointment!
